Martineau Gardens

On Sunday we went to the Martineau Gardens Open Day. I had no idea it existed, despite having driven past many times. What a wonderful place! It’s two and a half acres of organic community garden in Edgbaston, Birmingham, not too far from the city centre. You can find out more about it here: Martineau Gardens. Their next Open Day is on the 25th September, but it’s free to go in every Mon – Sat 10-4.

There was lots for both kids and grown ups to do. There was a bug hunt, plant sales, yummy refreshments and an earth oven for baking pizzas and bread. Our children particularly liked the pirate ship. Entertainment was provided by the fabulous ukelele sounds of the Second City Strummers and there was morris dancing too. There’s also a pottery studio, nature trail and pond.

I’m looking forward to going back and exploring some more. The woods are calling!
