Ever since I became a wedding photographer, it’s been my dream to photograph a wedding at Portmeirion as it’s one of my favourite ever places. The quirky Italianate features combined with the stunning coastal location in North Wales put it on a lot of photographer’s bucket lists! I had an extra special reason though as I got married there myself.
I was able to get shots of both bride and groom preparations as Lucia and Leighton were both getting ready at Castle Deudraeth before moving onto the village for the ceremony in the Hercules Hall. Olwen the registrar conducted my wedding and she was just as lovely as I remembered. After taking some group shots and portraits in the centre of the village, we went back up to the more private setting of Castle Deudraeth where the gardens provided a beautiful backdrop to the drinks reception.
After the pretty epic speeches, including Leighton’s own ‘This is Your Life’ red book moment, I took the happy couple back down into the village for some relaxed portraits. Most of the day visitors had gone home by then so we were able to make the most of the huge range of photo opportunities the village provides. Then it was back up to the Castle, where Lucia’s sister entertained the guests with her singing before the DJ took over for the evening.
Thank you so much to Lucia and Leighton for asking me to capture their day. I have to also say a HUGE thank you to all the staff at Portmeirion and Castle Deudraeth who were absolutely fabulous. Despite being very tired (having had a wedding the day before in North Yorkshire) I grinned the whole way home as it was such a magical day. I can’t wait to go back this year for more amazing weddings.
